the wild things

where the wild things are

based on a childrens book, this movie puts you in the shoes of a young boy whos imagination runs wild. this imagination is unique and through some family problems max (the main character) runs away from home and spends th night in his imaginary world, to escape the one he was already in. every child does this and so the movie sends every adult or teenager a message: that we were all children once, with imaginations just liek this. and that its good to escape for a while fromt he present. but...that doin so never solves any problems cause u always turn up right were you started.

max's adventureous experience take shim to a completely new world full of strange and enormous creatures...however his new world is a dipiction of the world he just escaped from...same problems, different people/ creatures...he tries to sort out these problems in the new world but ends up makign things worse. so he says sorry and leaves it for his newly found freinds/ family to work it out for themselves.

he returns home.
and is happy.

for now...

but whenever he feels lonely or sad again..he knows his friends will be waiting for him.

AVATAR

james cameron has done it again!

director, writer and producer of titanic, terminator, terminator 2, and aliens.

and now Avatar.

duration: 2 hrs 55mins
acting cast: sam worthington (terminator salvation, bootmen, and hart's war)
zoe saldana (the terminal, star trek)
sigourney weaver (alien, aliens, vantage point, holes, ghost busters, galaxy quest)
giovanni ribisi (gone in 60 seconds, sky captain and the world of tomorrow,
saving private ryan)
stephen lang, michelle rodriguez, joel moore, wes studi, laz alonso

the story of avatar: jake sully, an ex marine (paraplegic) is shipped off to a remote and hostile planet called pandora. on this planet are an indigenous race called the Na'vi, who are twice the height of a human with blue skin. these religious and warrior type humanoids are being driven out of their home by the humans, as a precious metal is only located on pandora.

jake sully is initiated into the avatar program where his genes are fused with the genes of the na'vi to create an entirely new being that can be remotely controlled by the human through mental thought and expensive mindlink machines/ capsules. the purpose of the avatar program is to socialise with the local people (the omatica'ya people) and make bonds of friendship and offer them medicine, food, etc. however, through a string of unforseen events jake is seperated with his research crew and left in the jungle of pandora to fight for himself. this is when he meets neytiri (the daughter of the chief of the omatica'ya people). she saves him from certain death and brings him into her home to meet her family.

neytiri teaches jake the ways of the omatica'ya, how to shoot a bow and arrow, to hunt, and speak the language of the na'vi. after three months jake becomes one of the people, he becomes a man and falls in love with neytiri, the forrest and the people. but when the miners reach a sacred spot jake is enraged and retaliates against his own people.

his general locks him up and cuts off all his avatar work so that jake cant warn the omatica'ya people of the impending doom. the humans are going to destroy home tree.

this act creates a rift between jake and neytiri, so he breaks out of prison and finds an isolated spot to access his avatar and protect the na'vi from the human siege.

this is probably a lame depiction of the plot. but i dont care.

i love this movie.
i officially claim this movie as my number one of all time!

because of the story, the original characters, the amazing landscape and creatures and the amazing graphics. it is an epic movie of infinite proportions...i literally dont think a movie will match avatar for years to come. not for its detail or shear amazingness...

new moon

well the highly anticipated new moon from the so called "twilight saga" was a huge success to me in many ways. but it also had some dissapointing bits in it...namely kristen stewarts acting and the last scene of the movie, and the clip of bella and edward running like lil girls in th forrest (the future bella and edward apparenlty)

but the rest of the movie was pretty awesome
the soundtrack to twilight was amazing and this new moon soundy was just as good. props to the man/ woman in charge! :)

the movie was made pretty much like the book, new moon being th least interesting book in th series the director made it pretty good.

big plus of this movie = jacob black
he has the best looking abs in the world! also his arms are pretty buff!

the graphics for the wolves were pretty sick aswell...and the volturi were well portrayed aswell i think...we will have to wait and see how they go in th fourth film...which i cant wait for! :)

anyway new moon was pretty good all in all...apart from those few scenes

the imaginarium

the imaginarium of doctor parnassus

heath ledgers last movie (uncompleted last movie)
johnny depp, jude law and colin farrel stepped in to fulfill his final work of art

however!

it wasnt as glorious as i thought it was going to be...

directed by the holy grail, meaning of life, life of brians terry gilliam i was expecting this movie to be funny, fast paced and exciting...however slow scenes turned into boring scenes with not so compeling actors...until heath is brought into th story it is uninteresting...but even the legendary heath ledger cannot make an average movie a master piece and so some of his acting seemed sereal and unrealisticly dramatic or strange...this whole movie is strange...

its saving grace to make heaths last movie not such a tragedy lays in the hands of the actual story, the special effects and imaginary worlds that terry gilliam has created for the characters in the story to travel upon! like your own personal yellow brick road...filled with your hearts desires and wonders, interests and secrets.

you leave the cinema expecting to wake up from one of yuor own dreams...and u see real life people walking and drinking coffee and buying clothes and you wonder just when this ugly, dull dream will end and turn back into the colourful and exotic dream of the imaginarium of doctor parnassus!

WHIP IT

up and come actress Ellen page, hard candy, xmen: the last stand, and Juno has dominated the red carpet with various awards and has in the last 4 years risen to stardom. Her latest movie whip it, where an indie-rock loving girl from a small town in Texas with a pageant obsessed mum and working class father tries to find a new thrill in life when a roller derby in Austin comes to her attention. she immediately pics up the roller skates and makes the team where she meets new and exciting women that are fun, energetic and rebellious.

A directorial debut from co-star drew Barrymore more then sets the scene with quirky scenes and hilarious acting. Barrymore catches every detail of emotion in her actress' and actor's from joy to sorrow which makes the audience bond with Ellen page's character Bliss cavander, Alia shawkat's character Pash, and Marcia gay hardens character Brooke cavander.

roller derby is a full contact sport where pushing, punching, scratching, and tripping are all part of the strategy to win points for your team. team with the most points win.

well known music for this movie makes it feel more suitable for the rebellious 14-19 year old girl or boy.

personal opinion...i love Ellen page, she is one of the best young actors of today's day and age. whoever votes against that is obviously a fool! the movie is a winner in my books and i will definitely be buying it. drew Barrymore's first time as director was a great success and with her style and attitude the movie was fun to watch and most people would be hard put to say it was bad!

surrogates

watched this movie last night
starring a host of well known faces.
including bruce willis (die hard), ving rhames (pulp fiction), and radha mitchell (pitch black)

the movie. based on a world where people are hooked into surrogates (advanced robots, strong, fast, and beautiful).
most of america were now using th system created for protecting the human race from disease and crime!
the founder, a disabled scientist going on 60+ years created the surrogates to make people like him walk again, make blind people see what their human eyes did not!
it was succesful, until the son of the creator of surrogates was killed, even though he was connected to his surrogate. something vsi (largest manufacturer of surrogates) said was impossible.

fbi agent tom greer (bruce willis) was called in to investigate the case. him and his partner detective peters (radha mitchell) collected info on both victims of this deadly attack.

this hi-tech and advanced weapon was made by the u.s. army for combat situations, but when the OD (overload device) was discovered to kill even the surrogates host the project was scrapped! however it seems that one such weapon was leaked into the hands of the non-surrogate world. humans that hate robots and want them all destroyed, fearing that it was inhuman to live through a machine. literally fat old guys could own surrogates tht looked like 20 year old woman. this was viewed by the non-surrogate population as an abomination to mankind.

the movie is one awesome ride through a futuristic world rivaled only with the likes of minority report, i robot, and the matrix.

"how long has it been since you were out of your surrogate?"
"i cant remember!!!"

district 9

this south african based story has been known to me for some time and iv been patiently anticipating its release into the cinema's...it actually suprised me!

i thought it was going to be good...but it turned out to be awesome! haha
aliens!
guns!
spaceships!
and more importantly SEQUEL! hahaha yeah boi!

cannot wait for tht! fingers crossed its as good as the first one...fingers crossed there will be a second one at all really because the director of district 9 also directed cloverfield which was a one of thriller of sorts that had everyone wanting to know more! it gives a new meaning to suspense! when u cant even find out an explination to half th questions you want!

anyway back to district 9...this movie really gets the audience to feel the main characters emotions and situation. you WANT him to succeed, i dont normally feel tht way in movies...i never get fully attached to characters. esspecially not in sci-fi thrillers...its not a normal way of directing those kind of movies...but it was pulled off in this movie!

so im giving it the thumbs up for special effects and storyline!

inglorious basterds

iv never seen a quentin tarrantino movie in the cinema's cause the kill bills were rated R18+ for some stupid reason :( oh well

inglorious basterds was an incredible movie to watch...the story and cinematography was excellent...the acting was top notch and quentin never dissapoints us...his movies always have a "cool" aspect to them...like th fact tht one of the "bastards" has his own colourful and dramatic moving title when he is introduced into the movie! haha montage to killing spree th whole lot! haha loved it!
brad pitt leads the movie along with some already famous faces from past tarrantino movies! which is also a tribute to how he writes and casts his movies!

gun battles...hilarious monologues and unforgettable characters give this movie a spark. the intro sets th audience back into the familiar scene of movies like resevoir dogs, death proof and pulp fiction. where a slow moving but interesting scene plays out in front of us which always leads to a climatic ending to the "prologue" of his films!

a dash of gore and brutality is inflicted upon the nazi's in this movie...which is a known trait to tarrantino movies! and when used affectively continually gathers fans and critics to his side of movie making.

i was loving this movie even before the candy bar adds came on. mainly cause i worship quentin and mainly cause brad pitt was acting in the movie! :)

i hope you enjoy it too

harry potter and the half-blood prince

i watched this movie at 11am yesterday
and it was good. probably better then th last 5 movies for a few reasons:

1-the actors (esppecially harry) are better at acting! like way better.
2-it had dark elements to it which i liked (cave scene)
3-ron is funny as
4-malfoy is included into this film a lot more, for the good of the movie

some downers tho...being a book lover is all th scenes they had to cut out of the movie...including half of the dumbledore and harry adventures into the pensieve :( oh well...at first i also thought slughorn was a bit of a retard...his acting wasnt so good...but he got a bit better as th movie went on...still a wierdo. but better. dumbledores hand didnt look as cool as i thought it would...they CGI'D the crap out of it instead of making it all skeletal looking like its supposed to. oh well again.
ginny is finaly a bit of a babe! and hermione and ron's relationship is building for the next two films where they kiss in hogwarts! oooooh! i think half the harry potter fans will be waiting out for tht scene and be like! "YAY! THEY FINALLY KISSED/SNOGGED!" haha should be good

some of the graphics were awesome. as to be expected...

they also added in scenes tht werent even in the book. eg bellatrix and fenrir dont even go to the weasleys residence in the book. but apparently they do in the movie! idk...

one other dissapointment was tht there was no order of the pheonix fight in the castle after snape kills dumbledore...:( sad for you!

TRANSFORMERS the revenge of the fallen

THIS WAS A SERIOUSLY GOOD MOVIE

transformers went up in my books from infinity to infinity times infinity
SO A LOT!

first of all let me tell u that this movie ran for over 2 and 3o Min's. so its a good running time with not many of those quirky love scenes like in number one. which i think is good...

basically id say that 2 hours of the movie is action. just pure transformer action baby!

if anyone still hasn't watched this...id suggest you do it right now...

revenge of the fallen...aka..."revenge of the original brother of the honourable primes"
the fallen being a prime added a whole other perspective to the movie...along with the history of the earth and how long the decepticons had actually been here...its pretty fucking cool...

OPTIMUS PRIME kicks some fucking asshole in this movie aye...unlike the first when he doesn't really do much...bumblebee is also a fucking mad dog! i mean he has some sick moves...

the introduction of the new autobots and decepticons is also a grand slam in my book.

AUTOBOTS
optimus prime
bumblebee
ironhide
ratchet
mudflap and skids (the twins)
Frisbee
jolt
jetfire
sideswipe

DECEPTICONS
the fallen (megatron's master)
megatron
starscream
soundwave
sideways
wheelie
ravage
the doctor
demolisher
scorponok
devastator = scavenger + scrapper + hightower + longhaul + rampage + overload + mixmaster

trust me some hectic shit goes down on planet earth

I'm not going to give away the whole story cause that would be gay...

the twins are way funny...so listen carefully to what they say...sometimes the action gets in the way of their funny comments...

agent Simmons comes back aswell...and he is funnier then ever!

everything about this movie is awesome

i have no idea how they will follow it up with a third...all i know is that i cant wait!

NOW LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS MOVIE

IT WAS INCREDIBLY FUNNY.
LIKE IT WAS FUNNY EVEN THE FIRST TIME I WATCHED IT...AND SOMETIMES THAT'S HARD TO COME BY. IT WAS WELL FILMED. NOT TO MENTION FUCKING HILARIOUS...EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED TO THESE GUYS JUST SEEMED TO BURY THEM DEEPER IN SHIT.....CLASSIC!

HERE'S THE LOAD-DOWN

DOUG- GROOM (ABOUT TO GET MARRIED IN TWO DAYS TIME)
ALAN- DOUG'S BROTHER IN-LAW (ONE FUNNY FUCK)
PHIL - TEACHER (BEST FRIEND OF DOUG)
STU - DENTIST (BEST FRIEND OF DOUG)

so Doug has to get married in two days and these boys decide to go for a Vegas trip...which basically turns into a nightmare...first off after the whole night of events:
  • they cant find Doug! ha ha big whoops!
  • their is also a tiger in their bathroom (which they stole from mike Tyson's house when he was sleeping)
  • they stole a police car
  • they took a bunch of roofies (accidentally which give you memory loss and shit. so they couldn't remember what happened that whole night)
  • they stole $80,000 worth of chips from a tiny dicked Asian who they lock in the trunk of their car (not the cop car)
  • Stu gets married to a stripper who is actually a major fucking babe! who also happens to have a baby which is brought along for half the movie through all these crazy scenes :)
  • Stu pulls out one of his teeth for a dare
  • Alan, Phil and Stu have to get $80,000 for this ching chong who has Doug because they couldn't find the 80k that they stole from him in the first place. so Alan gets his genius on and starts counting cards and wins $82,000. which they give to this ching who gives them a different Doug. the Doug who gave Alan the drugs (roofies) because Alan slipped them in some jaeger shots when they were toasting for an incredible night on the roof of their casino.
  • so they couldn't find Doug the whole day, they got arrested, shot at by these crazy Chinese dudes, crashed into, all the while they have massive hangovers that would definitely slay Bella three times over!!! :P
  • they get tazered by police officers for stealing their cop car
  • they end up finding Doug completely sun burnt on the roof of their casino with $80,000 of chips in his pocket.
they drive home in their beat up car just in time for the wedding where Stu breaks up with his terrible girlfriend in front of the whole wedding. Doug gets married to his gorgeous bride and they find a camera from the whole night of events and decide to look at the photo's

role credits along with pictures of their Vegas experience

salvation

terminator salvation sparked a plug in my movie expectations. expectations long in dormant from the last 3 terminator movies.

this movie crippled all other. souly because of the fact that Arnold swartzy wasn't in it! my god its good to get a new face to the lead role of protecting john Connor. however in this, john (christian bale) protects himself more often then not. he is the true warrior.

apparently this film was one of the most expensive films to make. as in top ten in the history of movies! that is a big thing to accomplish. but!!! when u see all the action, destruction and robot interaction in this film you will not be surprised where all that money went! and what do i say to the producers of such a film. MONEY WELL SPENT!

this movie pulled away from the general, terminators are coming to kill john Connor! omg we better run. then run some more. and then kill the big bad terminator in the end...please! that worked for the first three. but i thank the lord that they didn't try it in this one!
so thats a big plus in my books!

besides the young john Connor (Edward furlong) the john Connor in salvation played by the infamous batman of today. christian bale was certainly the better casted actor for the flick, compared with the terminator 3 dude. who isn't good unless he is portraying a yellow freak in sin city!

the plot follows john on a quest to destroy skynet and secure his present life, future life and past life. One person on the top of his list, is his 20ish year old father, who is destined to be sent back in time for him to protect Sara Connor and have some awesome sex with her to make a baby! thats right u guessed it gang! LO AND BEHOLD john is born. but that is another movie. in salvation john is looking for him before he gets killed.

i wont go on about every other character but Marcus (Sam Worthington) is a humanoid thing sentenced to death for murder before skynet takes over. he forwards his body to science, and entwines his future in skynet.
he is a bad guy programmed to be a good guy and to believe he is a good guy to gain access into the resistances stronghold. he chooses to be good and rips out his bad robot chip in his brain.

what a swell lad

anyway

star trek

watched this incredibly good movie last night with twin mulks and a couple of his uni buds...highly anticipated in the nerd world, star trek, in my view didnt dissapoint...

well filmed, great special effects and action scenes.
characters were quirky but not lame and the story line was very well done to create a very nervous and suspensful climax!

basically, th movie starts out with a star cruiser chartering some unknown galaxy when it is attacked by a massive green, techincally advanced ship. captained by a green alien (of course) who is none other then eric bana...he portrays th revengfilled villian well and doesnt take any crap from anyone, otherwise they get a massive sword axe staffy pole thing through th chest!

trust me! he's bad ass!

anyway this federation crusier pretty much gets raped in the asshole and th captain is forced to board thier ship for negotiations (wherein, he gets shafted by the insanely cool sword axe staffy pole thing through the chest!

he leaves his first leutenant to captain the ship ans evacuate all of its passengers...including his extremely pregnant wife, by coincidence gives bith at the time the ship is being smashed into tiny pieces. she escapes with her newly born son while the husband (the captain, for like 16 minutes) stays aboard cause he is totally cool and takes one for the team...he basically flies tht ship right into the vagina of eric bana's ship...vagina is a loose term for the description of this ship...i mean if u classify a ship with about a zillion spikes coming out in one direction as its vagina then yeah!
he drove his ship (the penis) right into it and hurt it so much so tht it couldnt destroy the escaping shuttles filled with like 800 people....

so star trek intro rapped in one big dookie

space...
more space...
more and more space...
star ship...
alien ship...
alien ship shooting good guys ship...
small shuttle with captain within leaving good guys ship...
captain dies aboard alien ship...
good guys ship evacuates passengers...
remaining good guy steers good guy ship into alien ship...
explosion...
"STAR TREK"...
flash foward in time to lil ratbag of good guy who steered good guy ship into alien ship

no matter how i said th intro their...it is an amazing start to a movie! and it only gets better from there...

trust me

fucking awesome movie...just writing this blog about it makes me want to go to th cinema's to watch it again :)

WOLVERINE

as soon as i heard this was coming out....i was like....FUCK YEAH NIGGA

and my attitude didnt change after i watched it last weekend...it was still awesome and still FUCK YEAH NIGGA...

the story was actually a lot more interesting then what i thought it would be, and it is never ever ever boring (which scores big points in my book)

actions scenes and graphics are top notch...including the characters...and scenery...

one of the more predictable things about this movie was tht there was always gonna be a big bad boss at the end of the film tht hugh jackman had to cut through...knowign tht it was still great to watch :)

im not sure if dragon has seen this movie yet or not...but he better...and soon...

WILL SMITH

he is amazing

brock left me the job to annalize this movie, and tht i hopefully will do for all the people tht read ths blog (not many)

this movie

some critics could say, is only good because of who acted in it...i say BULLSHIT ON THAT

sure will smith, rosario dawson, woody harrelson, barry pepper and a few unkown but excellent actors made this film what it is...but every movie is like tht...some people were just made to act, and act in this movie...

they all did an amazing job

the plot, starts out complex and mysterious, all the time the audience is trying to fill in the blanks left out deliberately so as not to spoil the dramatic ending to such a magnificent drama and love story.

tim thomas killed 7 people in a car collision, one of those 7 was his wife.

ever since tht crash, he has been donating organs for worthy recipients all over the counrty...he donated a lung for his brother, a portion of his liver for a childcare service worker. and as the movie unravels, he reaches out to a blind salesmen, a kid with a bone marrow disorder, a man in need of a kidney, he helps a woman and her two children from being bashed by a drunk boyfriend, by giving them a new house and new life. he also helps a woman. a woman who's heart is too weak to pump blood, some of the time, to her brain.

one thing tim didnt count on, was falling in love.

these lucky people werent picked randomly off the street tho. he chose them, because they were worthy of such help. as you find out, he gives generously to those in need. and not so generously to those unworthy. he cares about people because he has the power to change their lives forever.

well directed and written.

big thumbs up for me

The Spirit

firstly...you have to take into account tht this movie WAS directed by Frank Miller...the writer and director of sin city...

so those fans out there tht love his shizzle...u will love this too...

and iv got to say....im a fan....fo sho :)

THE SPIRIT is ever bit enticing as sin city, with its mainstream actors including

samuel jackson, scarlett johansson, eva mendes, gabriel macht, jaime king, louis lombardi etc

firstly, the cinematography is amazing to watch, just like sin city it follows the dark and mysterious hero/ villian type look, occasionally grasping the affective red (the spirit's tie) and also blue. With an old 1950's time plot within a parallel universe known as central city (aka new york) this film is bound to opperate in the audiences impression of america in the great depression.

our hero, an ex-cop, lives underground with his beloved stray cats, he wears a mask to cover the face tht died years before, and his black hat, black suit, red tie and white shoes make him a distinct and likeable character. along with his hilarious anticts with a villian named octopus (samuel jackson) the spirit (gabriel macht) attracts every woman he meets, and him to them.

"You're in love with every women you meet, Mr.Spirit. You say lovely things to all of us, and you mean every word you say"

after being shot and killed on the job, a doctor (and expremintal scientist with a god complex and overall wish to be immortal) the octopus injects the spirit with a potion (as a trial for himself) that makes him practically immortal, or the closest thing to it.

a few murders into the movie, sand saref (eva mendes) a gorgeous woman and teen sweet heart of the spirit entwines herself deeply in the plot, by stealing a chest containing the contents of which the octopus would do anythign to get his hands on.

the story ends with a massive shoot up between the spirit, the octopus and known associates (silken floss aka scarlett johansson), sand saref and the cops and basicallly you will have to watch it to know what happens, and what the treasure cheast(s) (yes, thts right, its a plural) contain...

:) enjoy

17 Again

Zac Efron... My man crush.
The man that every adolescant girl (and some boys) go crazy about is the only thing that saves this 'should've been straight to dvd' movie.
Zac Efron stars in what could be described as asymmetrical to what Jennifer Garner did in 'Suddenly 30'.
He doesnt sing, but his charisma and charm save this film and were worth the $9.50 i spent last cheap tuesday.
Realising that he has lived his life moping about missed opportunities and his flailing relationship with his children, he stumbles across the stereotypical 'wise old janitor' who has some sort of secret power that turns him, as you would have guessed, into a 17 year old again.
What follows is nothing new: some bully upstaging, some incestuall love, and of course, when he gets to the cross road in his senior year again, he realises that he made the right decision all along, and he should be embracing it.
The thing that irks me the most is that Zac's character doesnt even try to fit in, giving a highly unlikely, unmotivating, and unentertaining rant on the kids of todays generation having premarital sex.
There are a few good tidbits here and there though. A small penis joke, as well as the 'stand in fake dad's' obsession with sci-fi and all the memorabillia he possesses in his house were enough for a silent giggle/smirk.

All up though, Zac Efron and his undeniable talent save this from being tossed in post production, as it provides little else besides some gay eye candy as you relish the pre-pubescnt girl inside of you.

Watchmen

I don't have much time so just a few thoughts about watchmen...
  • it was a bit dissapointing
  • nice special effects, good fight scenes(snapping the guys elbow the opposite way)
  • lots of sex scenes were good.
  • a complex time jumping plot made it a little confusing.
  • some really awesome characters(Rorscach(?), the comedian)
  • some average charcaters(nite owl, silk spectre)

i think tom did a review that i pretty much totally agree with. i think this movie was enjoyable, but a weird, overly long ending, and the feeling that it didnt quite reach its potential, or its hype, left me leaving feeling a little disappointed.

rorscach's character saved it from being a 3.5/5...

WATCHMEN

Visually, this movie is fucking magnificent.

capable of showing up star wars 3 graphics and the like...

however. thos movie is still a comic book movie. and thus had to live up to people expectations of the novels.

now i havnt read the novels.
but
i want completely satisfied when i walked out of this movie at the end!
it could of been so much better.
but they just didnt make it so.

the plot was very twisted, winding in and out of present time and past time.
this movie did a few things for me.

1.It surprised me in that it was different to what i was expecting.
2.They didnt push the envelope (meaning they could of made it better)
3.The surprise ending was obviously what the movie ended, but this time, i just didnt pick it. obviously there has to be the good guys and bad guys, but yeah, its obvious once you see it, but at the time no-one is thinking about it, because the movie is filmed in such a way that you dont get to think about things before it moves on, which keeps the movie engaging.

as i said the graphics are fenominal. the plot, elegant, a little to complex at times, for a comic book that is. and the acting is all good stuff.

esspecially the detective type watchman...his name is walter but he likes to be called rorschach and he is amazing in this movie anyway.

definitely my favourite character. i would definitely watch this movie again just to see him act in it and such. he was awesome.

other characters.

the night owl - honorable, and in love with silk spectre 2, strong, technically equipt.
silk spectre 2- beautiful, smart, cunning and loves the old root with john (dr.manhattan). but finds a new lover during the movies critical stages.
osymandias- the smartest man in the world, with the help of dr.manhattan, helps create a renewable energy source of some kind. fast. strong. is the leader figure for the watchmen. can avoid bullets, cause he is amazingly quick.
the comedian- a veteran of the first superhero team called the minutemen. was with dr.manhattan during the vietnam war and other such american conflicts. was a government assasin. always a walking timebomb, cut throat, courages, stupid, saw men as the morst possible things created on the earth.
dr. manhattan- the only actual person with super powers, was killed at a government facility during a scientific experiment. but was able to recreate himself as a new being, with super human powers, he was able to bend and manipulate all matter on the earth however he saw fit.
pretty cool, he could teleport from place to place, eg earth to mars!

this film was slow at the start and took nearly an hour to get into the crux of the plot, but once you were there, u didnt want to leave.

very likeable, but also very easy to dislike. some bits were a lil dry, but of course there are always bits liek tht, soppy bits etc

however, if anyone remembers this director from 300, you wont be dissapointed to find a few more sex scenes in this film aswell.

"iv already told you, im not stuck in here with you! your stuck in here with me!"

oh and btw, dr.manhattan walks around naked all the time. his dick flops around alot! lol that was directed at the girls!

notorious b.i.g.

ok so yesterday night (thursday) me and sean haggarty went and watched notorious at the cinema's...

i was very impressed at the movies quality and it raised the bar for movies about actual people some what!

i would definitely recommend anyone to go see this movie

biggie smalls was just another nigga from brooklyn.

having all the big rappign names like tupac, snoop dogg and dre in the west. there was need to fill the position of representing rapper in the east! the man tht everyone loves and who all the young crew love, and listen to on the radio etc

biggie was raised by his mum in a tough neighbourhood, which meant tht if you werent part of the in crowd, you were dead, or close to it.

he got into dealing drugs at about the age of 11 or 12, and quickly progressed as a dealer till the age of 17 or a8 when he was busted for a big load of drugs and cash and firearms, he went to jail for nearly a year i believe. it didnt really say. but it was about tht maybe 2 years...

he always loved rapping about life as a younger kid, so it was only natural tht he turned to rapping when he was sent to jail, having nothing better to occupy his mind...

he got out and immediately reformed old aquiantances. then started rapping for serious, local gigs etc, but things werent going his way. life was tough. he got a chick pregnant, and then started rooting some other bitch on th side. which became complicated later on in his career.

he wasnt making much money from the rapping, even tho he was damn good, he had all the street cred, but no record deal. he then turned back to drugs and him and a mate got busted for carrying a firearm, his friend took the fall tho, cause he told biggie "yo dawg, once you make it in the rap industry we all made it, so ima take this for ya, ill be out in three years, whereas if u take it, your looking at 5, i got you man, just do your thing". it went something like tht anyway.

so his friend took the time for biggie to realise his dream, he put out his first album a couple of months later, life was going according to plan. parties. girls. and a girl named faye!

he married faye and they had a little kid together. therefore biggie broke up with his first bitch, and the second bitch was all up in his face about it, cause she was also working on her singing career, which biggie got her.

gigs everyweek, money rolling in. everything was looking good, until tupac got held up in the studio and robbed and shot, he didnt know who to trust and therefore a fight between east and west broke out.

obvioulsy biggie didnt set him up, but tupac didnt believe it and thhey turned from friends to enemies in a night.
after soul searchign and letting the heat around him and tupac cool down, biggie created a second album and was touring the country prommoting it. this took them into tupacs territorys.

but a week before they made their prommotion tour tupac was shot and killed.
therfore biggie entering his turf to promote his new album infuriated all the west coast nigga's against him. and while out on the town, driving from a club to the hotel they were staying at, some-one did a drive by and shot the notorious b.i.g.

he died at 24 years of age.

there are alot of kool scenes up in this movie, and young 50 cent is featured a lot throughout th film. which gives the audience an idea of when his life began and who his mentors were.

Gran Torino

Clint Eastwood produces, directs, stars and even sings the theme song in this fantastic movie about the clashes between cultures, and learning to accept them.

He plays Walt, a Vietnam veteran who is increasingly frustrated that his neighbourhood has been taken over by people of all different countires, leaving him to be one of the only caucasions left.
But when his neighbours nearly get kidnapped by a local asian gang, Walt intervenes, pulling out a massive gun saying what will be a future catchphrase of movie history "get off my lawn".
The gang backs off but threats are thrown back and forth such as a gang member saying "go back inside old man" and Walt replying with something along the lines of "yeah i'll blow your fucking head off then i'll go back inside and sleep just fine".

The gang drive off and the family are extremely thankful, to which Walt dissmisses.
He wakes up the next day and is disappointed to find that he has become a local hero and the asian community keep leaving gifts on his doorstep.
But after a while he strikes up a friendship with Soo, a young girl from next door, and she persuades him to teach her younger brother Thao a few life lessons.
Walt teaches Thao how to pick up girls, be a handyman around the house, talk like a man, and get a job, whilst Walt himself starts to enjoy the asian food, and thier culture.

It is a great tale of acceptance, and learning to have respect, and not to be fearful of things that are different. All this leads up to the final confrontation with the gang, and a twist ending that was quite brutal, but clever.

Even though it is a drama, it is still one of the funniet movies i have ever seen, as Walt comes up with every single derogatory nickname for an asian that you have ever heard. He calls it like it is.

The only problem i can think of is that Clint Eastwood has hinted that this may be his last acting movie. I have never been a huge fan until now, but like Shannon Harvey of the STM, i agree that even though Clint is 78, he is well and truly at the top of his game.

YES MAN

When i walked into the cinema last night to see Yes Man i felt i would be leaving feeling underwhelmed and disappointed. this was not the case though.
I felt that Jim Carrey had dropped the ball of late. i used to be a big time fan when he had done Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura etc. But i definately thought he was too old to still be doing the rubber faced act that made him famous.
Yes Man though was quite better than i though it would be.
He plays a man called Carl who is pretty much a hermit, never goes out, declines all loan's at work(at the bank), but after he gets dragged along to a seminar and is made a public example of in front of a massive crowd, he starts to buy into the whole Yes thing.
I reckon that Carl bought into it a little too easy though, as his reclusive character changed in a flash to a wild, crazy dude. I think it would take more than 24 hours to change your whole perspective, and the way you acted.
It is quite funny though, especially the character Norman, who is probably the biggest nerd i have ever seen on the big screen. From his costume parties(Harry Potter, 300) to his handshakes and nicknames,(Carl becomes Car) he is just the perfect character for the situation.
There are some genuine laugh out loud moments like Dobby at the costume party, or Norman opening the door and yelling 'This is Sparta!', to the bit where Carl is lying there with a fly crawling on his eyeball, or the sticky tape bit.

Carl's love interest sort of annoyed me a bit though. She was sort of quirky and a bit edgy, but the whole band thing was shit, and unbelievable.

The weird thing was, even though i thought it was pretty good, my favourite part was the 3 trailers shown before the movie even began.
It started with 7 pounds, which although i had seen it, was good to watch it again now that i knew everything that had gone down. Then came Harry Potter 6. It gave me goosebumps. I am so craving a bit of HP6 right now actually.
Then finally it showed Gran Torino. It looked so good that i almost got my nut right there and then.
I actually wished i had gone in to see one of those three... but still, Yes Man held its own.

7 Pounds

Will Smith.
What a guy.
I now am at that stage with my boy Will that, no matter what movie he features in next, i will be going to see.
i think he has reached that level where he is what i think, maybe the best actor in the world right now.
He has been in such a vast variety of roles. he has done so many different characters in so many different genres.
Men in black, bad boys, ali, pursuit of happyness. i robot, shark tale, hitch, 7 pounds, i am legend, hancock. Even the fresh prince of bel air.
And he is also the first rapper to win a grammy too.
like i said, what i guy.

In Seven pounds, Will, or Ben(or not actually), is an IRS* guy who... well i dont really want to say much of the plot because it has a great ending which, even though you can sort of see it coming, is still quite shocking. The producers actually told all the critics that reviewed the movie not to give too much away so it won't ruin the ending, so i wont be one to either.
What i will say though is that Will's performance is great. He actually made me nearly cry at the end. His character at the start is really quite different from what i have seen him in, in the past too. And it was fresh.

I know this is a bit pathetic of a post but i will leave it up to Night Hawk to give more of a plot review, as long as he doesnt ruin the ending!

yes yes yes man!

YES MAN
Considering all the movies Jim Carey has been in and how funny he has made those! this definitely falls into the sort of humour we have come to expect from such a hilarious actor!
its a fun filled comedy with little twists and turns along the way! sometimes with too much dry humour, but other times with stuff that will just make you laugh out loud! HAHAHAHAHA (like that)

So the story is about this guy (Carl Allen), around 30 if i remember correctly! his life sucks! but only cause he is so uptight about everything he does! he lets down his friends, he has no relationships with women apart from the one that ended three years ago! until he meets this insanely embracing character outside of where he works (a bank) where he is introduced to a covenant called "yes man" where, that's right you guessed it, you have to say "yes" to anything and everything!
It leads Carl on some wild and unexpected turns, and his life literally is turned into a roller coaster full of ups and downs! which eventually ends with a fun and most enjoyable and satisfying conclusion!

Life, love, beer and a whole lot of saying yes! makes this movie not only exciting but fun!
it makes u want to say yes to lots of things, just so you can experience the adventure that Carl did!

Yes Man rated: 3/5

"hey your not allowed in here!? what are you doing?"

"Carl come on!"
"oh god, i cant please everyone!"

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Me, Cal and Tom went and saw the Curious Case of Benjamin Button the other day and i was pleasantly surprised.
The fact that it actually held my attention the whole time(nearly 3 hours long) was quite amazing.
I am now officially a fan of Brad Pitt, but the one problem with his acting in this movie was that i don't think he showed enough emotion. It didnt go deep enough into that side of it, so instead of being a fantastic movie, it was only great.
I feel the director might have blown it a bit, as storyline's this original don't come round very often, but although it looked good, i kept thinking that it was just a pretty standard way of telling the story.
Even though it was sad, but also humorous, it did not captivate my emotions, just skimming the surface rather, of mild amusement. This was not to say that i did not enjoy it, becuase i definatley did.
But i left thinking what could have been though.
Imagine a plot like that, with a better screenplay, and some powerful acting like Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight, and hey presto! It would have been a 5/5

instead its a 3.5/5

benjamin

"The curious case of Benjamin Button" is a brilliantly filmed tale of a man born a baby, but with all the looks and disadvantages of an old man in his 80's! He ages backwards! curious in its self. Well worth making a film about! Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett lead the cast in spectacular form! story begins with daisy (Blanchett) as an old woman mere minutes away from death, her daughter (Caroline) stumbles upon a diary the Benjamin wrote for her mum when he was travelling the world! as Caroline reads the story travels back in time to when Benjamin was born, as he grows up as an old man and all the things he discovers as he grows young and not old! he gains hair, loses wrinkles and in his youth, pimples! he meets his life's love daisy at a party where his real father discarded him! his foster mother Queenie is a hilarious woman who cooks and takes care of the aged with her husband. They r most lovable characters and is a good environment for Ben to grow young in! along with his foster parents Benjamin has a lot of company in the other aged people coming and going, they tell him stories, teach him to play the piano and set his first 17 years firmly as a place he can call home!

Benjamin finds friends in the big wide world, lovers, and even manages to fight in the 2ND world war, but only on a tug boat salvaging damaged war ships. always in contact with daisy he learns to live a life of his own and to not be afraid to go after what he wants!
daisy eventually ends up in a car accident which creates a shift between them, that are later remedied in their late thirties and mid forties and fifties. They r married (unofficially) for over 30 years until Ben becomes more of a hindrance then a husband and he decides to leave his daughter in daisy's care as he becomes younger and younger!
eventually becoming a small boy with Alzheimer's who is mischievous and childish and looks like a young child but who has lived a life of a man in his late 70's. fortunately daisy meets up with him in her old age and takes care of him till the last moment of his life as a little baby in her arms!

thoroughly enjoyable movie! sad, funny, romantic, action filled and all the while a brilliant drama one for the many ages ahead to watch!
