YES MAN

When i walked into the cinema last night to see Yes Man i felt i would be leaving feeling underwhelmed and disappointed. this was not the case though.
I felt that Jim Carrey had dropped the ball of late. i used to be a big time fan when he had done Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura etc. But i definately thought he was too old to still be doing the rubber faced act that made him famous.
Yes Man though was quite better than i though it would be.
He plays a man called Carl who is pretty much a hermit, never goes out, declines all loan's at work(at the bank), but after he gets dragged along to a seminar and is made a public example of in front of a massive crowd, he starts to buy into the whole Yes thing.
I reckon that Carl bought into it a little too easy though, as his reclusive character changed in a flash to a wild, crazy dude. I think it would take more than 24 hours to change your whole perspective, and the way you acted.
It is quite funny though, especially the character Norman, who is probably the biggest nerd i have ever seen on the big screen. From his costume parties(Harry Potter, 300) to his handshakes and nicknames,(Carl becomes Car) he is just the perfect character for the situation.
There are some genuine laugh out loud moments like Dobby at the costume party, or Norman opening the door and yelling 'This is Sparta!', to the bit where Carl is lying there with a fly crawling on his eyeball, or the sticky tape bit.

Carl's love interest sort of annoyed me a bit though. She was sort of quirky and a bit edgy, but the whole band thing was shit, and unbelievable.

The weird thing was, even though i thought it was pretty good, my favourite part was the 3 trailers shown before the movie even began.
It started with 7 pounds, which although i had seen it, was good to watch it again now that i knew everything that had gone down. Then came Harry Potter 6. It gave me goosebumps. I am so craving a bit of HP6 right now actually.
Then finally it showed Gran Torino. It looked so good that i almost got my nut right there and then.
I actually wished i had gone in to see one of those three... but still, Yes Man held its own.

7 Pounds

Will Smith.
What a guy.
I now am at that stage with my boy Will that, no matter what movie he features in next, i will be going to see.
i think he has reached that level where he is what i think, maybe the best actor in the world right now.
He has been in such a vast variety of roles. he has done so many different characters in so many different genres.
Men in black, bad boys, ali, pursuit of happyness. i robot, shark tale, hitch, 7 pounds, i am legend, hancock. Even the fresh prince of bel air.
And he is also the first rapper to win a grammy too.
like i said, what i guy.

In Seven pounds, Will, or Ben(or not actually), is an IRS* guy who... well i dont really want to say much of the plot because it has a great ending which, even though you can sort of see it coming, is still quite shocking. The producers actually told all the critics that reviewed the movie not to give too much away so it won't ruin the ending, so i wont be one to either.
What i will say though is that Will's performance is great. He actually made me nearly cry at the end. His character at the start is really quite different from what i have seen him in, in the past too. And it was fresh.

I know this is a bit pathetic of a post but i will leave it up to Night Hawk to give more of a plot review, as long as he doesnt ruin the ending!

yes yes yes man!

YES MAN
Considering all the movies Jim Carey has been in and how funny he has made those! this definitely falls into the sort of humour we have come to expect from such a hilarious actor!
its a fun filled comedy with little twists and turns along the way! sometimes with too much dry humour, but other times with stuff that will just make you laugh out loud! HAHAHAHAHA (like that)

So the story is about this guy (Carl Allen), around 30 if i remember correctly! his life sucks! but only cause he is so uptight about everything he does! he lets down his friends, he has no relationships with women apart from the one that ended three years ago! until he meets this insanely embracing character outside of where he works (a bank) where he is introduced to a covenant called "yes man" where, that's right you guessed it, you have to say "yes" to anything and everything!
It leads Carl on some wild and unexpected turns, and his life literally is turned into a roller coaster full of ups and downs! which eventually ends with a fun and most enjoyable and satisfying conclusion!

Life, love, beer and a whole lot of saying yes! makes this movie not only exciting but fun!
it makes u want to say yes to lots of things, just so you can experience the adventure that Carl did!

Yes Man rated: 3/5

"hey your not allowed in here!? what are you doing?"

"freeze!"
"OK"
"Carl what are you doing lets run"
"thanks, lets do that"
"stop"
"sure thing man"
"Carl come on!"
"oh god, i cant please everyone!"

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Me, Cal and Tom went and saw the Curious Case of Benjamin Button the other day and i was pleasantly surprised.
The fact that it actually held my attention the whole time(nearly 3 hours long) was quite amazing.
I am now officially a fan of Brad Pitt, but the one problem with his acting in this movie was that i don't think he showed enough emotion. It didnt go deep enough into that side of it, so instead of being a fantastic movie, it was only great.
I feel the director might have blown it a bit, as storyline's this original don't come round very often, but although it looked good, i kept thinking that it was just a pretty standard way of telling the story.
Even though it was sad, but also humorous, it did not captivate my emotions, just skimming the surface rather, of mild amusement. This was not to say that i did not enjoy it, becuase i definatley did.
But i left thinking what could have been though.
Imagine a plot like that, with a better screenplay, and some powerful acting like Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight, and hey presto! It would have been a 5/5

instead its a 3.5/5

"The curious case of Benjamin Button" is a brilliantly filmed tale of a man born a baby, but with all the looks and disadvantages of an old man in his 80's! He ages backwards! curious in its self. Well worth making a film about! Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett lead the cast in spectacular form! story begins with daisy (Blanchett) as an old woman mere minutes away from death, her daughter (Caroline) stumbles upon a diary the Benjamin wrote for her mum when he was travelling the world! as Caroline reads the story travels back in time to when Benjamin was born, as he grows up as an old man and all the things he discovers as he grows young and not old! he gains hair, loses wrinkles and in his youth, pimples! he meets his life's love daisy at a party where his real father discarded him! his foster mother Queenie is a hilarious woman who cooks and takes care of the aged with her husband. They r most lovable characters and is a good environment for Ben to grow young in! along with his foster parents Benjamin has a lot of company in the other aged people coming and going, they tell him stories, teach him to play the piano and set his first 17 years firmly as a place he can call home!

Benjamin finds friends in the big wide world, lovers, and even manages to fight in the 2ND world war, but only on a tug boat salvaging damaged war ships. always in contact with daisy he learns to live a life of his own and to not be afraid to go after what he wants!
daisy eventually ends up in a car accident which creates a shift between them, that are later remedied in their late thirties and mid forties and fifties. They r married (unofficially) for over 30 years until Ben becomes more of a hindrance then a husband and he decides to leave his daughter in daisy's care as he becomes younger and younger!
eventually becoming a small boy with Alzheimer's who is mischievous and childish and looks like a young child but who has lived a life of a man in his late 70's. fortunately daisy meets up with him in her old age and takes care of him till the last moment of his life as a little baby in her arms!
